Meet the Couristan Area Rug

There are area rugs and then there is the Couristan area rug. But, it is actually difficult to discuss this rug, when there is a collection the size of Couristan's.

80+ Years of History

Couristan rugs has been in the business of producing the most exquisite power-loomed or handmade area rugs since 1926. The company has been seen two generations so far starting with Basil and George Couri. Couristan rugs business began with importing handmade area rugs from Persia.

The quality of the rugs was so important to the brothers that they personally went and hand-selected each rug to ensure that each was of the finest quality to bring home.

The first shipments of rugs were Sparta rugs that came from Smyma. The company got its name from Couri, and from where the rugs came from... small weaving villages in that small region called Stan.

By 1927, the company had expanded to import rugs from India as well. In 1930 Couristan included Chinese hooked rugs and braided rugs from Japan. In the 1950s, Couristan started to import broadloom rugs and varieties of area rugs, as well.

A Wide Range of Rugs

Today, they carry a wide variety of styles and materials. They range from traditional to trendy, elegant to casual, and include those that look antique. Finally, the time has come to do something about the floor. Seems easy enough right? Well, not if you want a bit of class, it isn't. That’s because to Couristan, a rug will make or break a home's overall look and feel.
